Fabulous show tonight at the Crysalids Theatre in Kitchener, John remarked after the 2nd or 3rd song how good the sound was ..... "these old movie theatres man, they knew how to build 'em right."
Opened with Through Your Hands, a song I never really gave more than a passing listen to previously......must've played it 30 times since....shows how timeless his songs are.
Covered all the bases (except for Memphis in the Meantime & Buffalo River Home), John always seems to find such fabulous musicians to back him....Doug Lancio's guitar & mandolin work were stellar, & the background singer/guitar tuner (his name escapes me, but only at a Hiatt concert would you see that), was superb....he sang as loudly as John, harmonies, falsetto, never missed a note....pretty amazing when a background singer can stand out like that.
This was my 9th or 10th Hiatt concert & I have to say he shows no sign of slowing down, his voice was strong, his guitar work was excellent & his humour and humility, as always, made the show a very personal experience for me, as I'm sure it did for everyone else. |
